As you may know, your body is a large system made up of smaller systems, all of which must work at optimum efficiency. Seemingly minor problems could be symptoms of a more serious problem. For example, if you often feel run down, experience shortness of breath or occasional chest pain, you might be tempted to chalk it up to your age, weight or just the result of stress. But you might be experiencing cardiac problems and chest pain is often a symptom in just 30% of people who suffer heart attacks. Your body sends you messages that you should not ignore and that you should discuss with your physician.
Our dentist, Dr. Rubina Nguyen, and her husband, Dr. Paul Nguyen, are the founders of S.C.A.R.F. In fact, Dr. Nguyen is the only dentist in the U.S. to run a medical non -profit organization. S.C.A.R.F. is dedicated to helping people understand how issues such as oral health, sleep apnea and other health issues can contribute to heart problems, including sudden cardiac death.
At S.C.A.R.F., Dr. Nguyen and her husband work with 30 different interns each summer to study the relationship between sleep apnea, oral health and sudden cardiac death.
